a perfectly sweet and savory sandwich with a creamy, funky, camembert cheese

This lovely sandwich, among many other things, was kindly brought to us by the French. Well, sort-of. It was likely inspired by the classic jamon-beurre, which is ham and butter on a baguette. The addition of jam was ingenious.

I used last weeks blackberry rosemary jam on this sandwich and I think I unintentionally made that jam specifically for this. The subtle rosemary flavor shone so brightly with the ham, which leads me to believe there is no other jam more suitable for this sandwich. Cheese is not optional on this sandwich, but Camembert is. A Triple Creme Brie would serve the same purpose with less funk, but Taleggio would do the same with more funk. The choice is yours.

Fun fact - "ham and jam" were also radio code words used by British forces during the D-Day invasion to signal the capture of two bridges in Normandy. Now you know.

Thank you for being here! Please enjoy this perfect sandwich!
